Wolves of Orboros

They're done! It only took me... Um... When did I post Kaya? I guess about a year. Longer than I thought but they look pretty sharp as a group. The unit attachment arrived in the middle of me painting the unit so I decided I might as well just go ahead and paint the two of them as well.

The hardest part of painting these guys is that they look terrible until they're done. While I was painting the first group (I painted in groups of three to make the unit look less intimidating) Defenstrator came in to have a look at my progress and was fishing for something to say that didn't discourage me from continuing yet conveyed that they really didn't look that hot. He was quite surprised when I showed him the first completed Wolf.

I had planned to give them a white trim on the cloaks but since I had decided to go with the red so that they matched Kaya they looked a little bit like Santa Claus. Dulling the pelts down to grey helped that little problem. Of course, now I'm not sure how to paint the Pureblood Warpwolf because I'm not sure I want the Wolves to be wearing pelts that are close to the colour of the Pureblood.

Up next is painting the second Warpwolf for the army that Defenstrator converted for me.

Seraph #1

The Seraph is the first model I bought after the Legion box set and it has always served me well. I have two of them these days but never bought a third because I wanted to people to keep playing me.

This one is based with Games Worshop Catachan Green that was blended up to Camo Green. The brown is a base of Scorched Brown blended up to a mix of Vermin Fur and Blazing Orange.

Highborn Covenant Mariner

This is my latest Merc warjack and I painted him up to take him to PAX 2008. Ashlynn is my main mercenary caster, but she has a very glaring weakness. If she falls over she invariably dies, but because she is a melee caster and has short ranged spell list she has to play at least a mid field game. The Mariner deals with that problem with his Lash ability, where friendly models touching him can't be knocked down. He also adds some much needed range to the army and is able to do crowd control with his guns 3" AOE and his reach + Thresher melee ability. These days the Mariner + Mule combo is my standard build with Ashlynn.

This figure was painted with (the now defunct) Games Worshop Terracotta, which was blended up to Kommando Khaki. The silver metals were done with layers of Chainmail, Mithril Silver, and Taimya Smoke, while the bronzes were GW Dwarf Bronze and Taimya Smoke layers.. The Cannon was based with Privateer Press Brass Balls, washed with the the new GW wash Ogryn Flesh, a wash of Taimya Smoke, Ogryn Flesh again, and then drybrushed once more with Brass Balls.

Charger

This Charger is the my first Cygnar jack to be painted even though I've been playing them for 3 years. My Mercs and Legion have been getting all the painting love. I decided it was time to recitify this, but needed a scheme that was a) fast and b) not as incredibly blue as the studio one.

Fortunately I had inspiration in the form of the Cygnar Swordknights. I did like their scheme and was planning to use it, and I realised that I could translate it directly on to the Cygnar jacks. The result is what you see, although I won't be doing anything until I have all my Mercs painted (so close!). Then I will binge and paint them all along with Darius, Jeremiah Kraye, Haley, and Stryker. With that core I'll expand out into my simple armour troops (Swordknights, Stormguard, Stormblades) and then move to the more complex figs. That's the plan at any rate, although the Legion will be a distraction.

Forsaken

These are the two Forsaken I have painted for my Legion army. If we start plating 1000 point games much then I'll have to pick up two more, but these will do for now.

Converted Warpwolf

I converted Myantek's second Warpwolf for her. It was relatively extensive as I chopped off and repositioned the head. I Also cut and repinned the right arm and did furhter modification to the left.

Carnivean

This is my Carniveon that came in my Legion box set. He is painted the standard colour scheme of the army, which is Games Workshop Catachan Green blended up to Camo Green, and Scorched Brown blended up to a mix of Vermin Fur and Blazing Orange.
